Written by Simon Ward. Posted in Wordpress

Whiteboard is a free WordPress framework by Brian Purkiss of Plainbeta.com. It is designed to take the leg work out of creating a WordPress theme. It’s free with no strings attached so you can use it for commercial and non-commercial ventures. Brian has even been nice enough to say that you don’t even have to give him a link back for his efforts. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in WordPress themes.

Plaintxt offers sandbox, a minimalist framework for WordPress also and check out ezmoney for free blog layouts. Blogigs is a site that also offers WordPress Template Reviews.

Short, sweet and to the point, how it should be. A no frills drawing board something which is unsual in this age of fanciness.

    Brave:)

A Simple Theme for Simple Blogs. I tend not to be so simple though…

it’s a cool idea – often wordpres themes are expensive to buy or have a lot of sponsored links.

    this is a great alternative

This is how I like a post to be – short but clear, productive and informative. And this one is such a resource. I can actually start designing WordPress themes with this and get myself into a business.

I think this is great, it will give us the non-graphic designers a chance at creating our own themes. Thanx for this great post!

I am always looking for new wordpress themes…This one might be what I’ve needed to actually try my own hand at designing my own, especially since there are several generators that will give you the style sheets. Thanks for introducing me to a new one!

What I tend to like about these themes is that usually the blank ones are written with much cleaner code. Plus, eve if another template had that 3 column floating right layout you wanted, it will probably take you more time to scrape it and personalize, than if you started the layout on your own.

I’m not sure I understand the appeal of this wordpress theme…

  • July 31, 2008 at 6:53 am |

Thanks for this. I was looking for something nearly like this, but it’ll do!

  • August 7, 2008 at 2:09 pm |

    OK..

Let me get this straight.. basically.. the blank wordpress theme is a pre-coded set of standard files that you just have to ‘beautify’.. right?
If so, anyone with standard XHTML/CSS knowledge could make a WP theme!

And.. I plan to do so ;)

I’m a big fan of the “less is more” concept. Just look at Google’s front page. Clean. I’m going to load this theme up and see if I can use it for a new project. Thanks.

  • October 23, 2008 at 7:38 am |

Awesome.. never knew something like this existed!
Atleast, I dont have to go through the ‘core’ wordpress theme programming ;)

  • November 8, 2008 at 3:40 pm |

Nice wordpress theme maker. Almost never heard of someone not asking for link back after giving something like this out for free.

  • December 29, 2008 at 3:02 pm |

Wow, I can’t believe that it is only 76KBytes in size. This can save much time, If you are inclined to modify code and also understant the theme or template. Hats off to Brian.
