Increase Your Leads with Ultimate Landing Pages

A well-designed landing page has the power to allure, stimulate and persuade a visitor not only to buy your products, but also to become your loyal customer. In addition to giving an insight to your affiliate product, the lead capture page enlists its different benefits, showcases the comments from satisfied users and also displays the various special offers and discounts.

On the whole, the webpage should have all the ingredients to make the prospect believe that he will be getting nothing, but the best. While a good landing page can make your online business prosper, a substandard page can ward off all your prospects and cause irreparable damage to your business venture.

Here are a few characteristic features of a well-made landing page:

Attention-Grabbing Headline and Pithy Contents

Headline is the first component of the landing page that the visitor views. Hence, it should be not just gripping, but should also provide a clear idea about the product. The contents should be easy to understand and concise. Your prospects do not have time to read the fillers; so, don’t beat about the bush just focus on the salient features of the product. Use bullets as much as possible; they enhance the readability of the text. Keep the tone soft and personal, and remember to insert the appropriate keywords to bring in the search engine traffic.

Special Space for Benefits and Testimonials

By highlighting the benefits and showcasing the testimonials the conversion rate increases dramatically. While the benefits can be written in the main column where the other contents have been placed, the testimonials should be placed in the scroll panel.

Persuasive Call to Action Message

A persuasive call to action will instill confidence in the visitor, and motivate him to take action before leaving the landing page. There is no harm in adding factual information in your call to action message. The addition will make it more realistic and convincing. For instance, message like ‘Join 20,000 satisfied customers who use…’ will certainly win over the visitor and persuade him to take the requisite action.

Only Relevant Graphics, Images and Navigational Links

Avoid placing too many irrelevant graphics and images. They will only distract the visitor and may even take him away from your landing page. Thus, the entire purpose of the webpage would be defeated. Insert only those images that are important for the promotion of your affiliate product. As far as the navigational links are concerned, only one exit link is sufficient and that should take the prospect to your website. Remove all the other links because they will affect the conversion rate adversely.

Design That Is Highly Professional

The design of the landing page determines whether the visitor will stay for while or move out immediately. For this reason, it is important to pay attention on the harmony between the background and font color. Avoid dark colored background because they reduce the readability of the page. Also, pay attention to the font size. Select one that simple and comprehensible.

The landing page/squeeze page is a perfect way to get the viewers e-mail and in effect build your list. I still struggle with effective landing pages, you point out some useful tips. I mainly struggle with design and budget.

Wow, a great article and yes if a user sees a bad landing page then the user will go away, the difficult part is that all the the elements should be planned exactly as you said, so it will take some time away from us but it will be beneficial to our goal.

Right on! Your blog is right on point. As a web designer I often have to express these valid points to my customers.

I really like the idea of the scrolling testimonials from happy clients. I will implement it in my next web project

I’d also add that having a professional look and feel to the site helps promote a good image and one that gives the impression of trust. Overall, improving landing pages is one of the most immediate ways of improving conversion and making the most of your existing traffic.

I’m so glad SOMEBODY else understands how important good landing pages are. It seems like so many SEO experts just pass right over it without even a thought. I also appreciated the emphasis you placed on relevancy- so often something that we don’t stress enough!

A solid landing page is the directory for your entire site! A difficult-to-follow page will confuse your reader and send her/him off to look at another page!

    Thanks!

A long time ago I had experimented with landing pages. I must say that for sale conversions the landing page is the most important thing there is. Without a catchy landing page you probably will not land many customers.

I would like to add that importance of landing pages justifies constant testing and optimization. And it should be pretty easy to do. Since landing pages’ ultimate goal is conversions, you should be able to easily track different variations to reach the best possible conversion rate. Google web site optimizer is perfect for that.

Thanks for this important article.Actually I knew very little about landing pages before reading this article. I think to read this post a lot of people will be beneficial who have little knowledge solid land pages.

Response channels are also important elements of a landing page and, given that many internet users are still apprehensive about giving their personal data online, it usually helps the conversion rate to give as many options as possible: both online and offline means. A toll-free number can do wonders in terms of increasing response, and can be placed strategically in PPC ads. Click-to-call and click-to-chat can also be valuable additions.

I think the best way to write a sales page is to give all the information at once and be honest, show them how much it’s gonna cost, what they will be doing, how much they’ll make, and tell them if it’s a continuity program.

Hyped up sales pages will be a thing of the past with the new FTC rules which will be enforced on the 1 of Dec. If you don’t comply you will get sued or worse go to jail.

    Good luck newb’z

    A few more tips:
Whenever possible put the opt-in form above the fold. I know this is hard to do with a lot of designs, but the closer to the top of the page your form is the better the conversion.

Use only high quality graphics! No animated clipart junk.

Use a red dashed border around your optin box or a opt-in box image as the background, this has shown to draw attention to the form and increase opt-ins as well.

I think that your entire set of suggestions could also be described as “focusing the reader.” Too often, webmasters are not clearly thinking about the goal at hand: subscribe to the rss feed, sign up for the newsletter, contact us for a free evaluation. To be successful, we must focus on the goal and do everything in our power to help users arrive at that goal.

Great post. it’s important to really draw the user in with your landing page. any love you give to your landing page is sure to payoff in the long run

So many web designers neglect that all important \"call to action\". Maybe that should be the first thing on your list. Most designers are just focused on the look while ignoring the message. The look should serve the message. I think.

I can’t emphasize enough professional web design. And along with that grammar and spelling errors. The design is the first impression someone gets when they visit your website. You want them to think you’re professional. Next comes your content. If you have spelling and grammar errors then people think you’re not credible.

I\’m starting a couple new blogs, and working to build a community out of the group of sites. Creating a good landing page was the first and foremost thing i did to link to the various sites. Its very important and shouldn\’t be overlooked.

It takes time, but one of the best ways to determine what works best is split testing. Randomly send visitors to each of your site versions, and see which converts the best. But don’t be too quick to judge. I like to get at least 1,000 impressions on each before making a decision.

Yes, I agree with reducing the navigation links to zero. At the very least place them well below the fold.

The lead form should be non-intrusive and completely above the fold. Don’t make them scroll.

  • February 21, 2010 at 4:03 pm |

The art of persuasion is still alive and well as long as you do things correctly. People searching online have the attention span of a gnat! If your site doesn’t engage, you have no chance of them reading further. No wonder great copy, graphics, and proper design can and should cost a small fortune!

  • September 8, 2010 at 11:41 am |

When you have a good landing page (like described in this post) and functional call to action format, the visitor is already for 80% in your pocket.
Distraction of the visitor is not only caused by irrelevant graphics/images/links, but also by irrelevant content on the landing page. To much content creates to much information, what leads to confusion and distraction.

  • September 3, 2011 at 4:37 am |

With a good landing page your on-page CTR will increase DRAMATICALLY!

I increased my CTR by almost 50% just with the reworking of my landing page. I added an offer on the first page with “for more details visit the ____ page” linked. This is a great way to get them onto more relevant pages, and to have them read more information than you want to stuff on your landing page.
