Written by Simon Ward. Posted in SEO

Google have released a fantastic new feature as an option in their search engine. The Wonder Wheel will surely give Google yet more information as to how searchers think. But, for those who want to target search engine traffic it is a pretty fantastic keyword research tool, that not only gives you an endless supply of related search terms to look at, but also allows you to study competition. As the tool functions inside your Google search results, and as you explore new terms the results update, it is a great way to quickly evaluate competition for terms also.

How does it work

  1. Search for a term that you are interested in
  2. Select show options

    show_options

  3. Select Wonder Wheel

I really like this visual way of analyzing the data that the keyword tool returns. Will have to study it more closely to really get a handle on it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

It is really interesting to study major competitors using this tool. You can get a good gauge on what keywords they have targeted and where you might fall short.

Typical google dopeness. I could use this wonder-wheel thingy for days. I’m even find it interesting to look up search terms that have absolutely nothing to do with my site or my market.

Here is one more thing to suck me in and have me spend hours playing with. The internet is such a fun house. Everywhere you look there are just endless things with which to while away the hours.

Google is an amazing company. They have more sites and tools than most. Maybe even rivaling Microsoft.

Awesome tool! It looks like Google are using their huge amounts of information that they have gathered from us in new and exciting ways.

This kind of reminds me of the old mind mapping techniques we used at school.

I found Wonder Wheel some time ago and it’s a good place to start with one’s keyword research. I especially like it from a brainstorming perspective. It’s much faster at offering ideas than the Google Adwords Keyword Tool; plus it’s more fun.

It seems the entire web is moving towards the visual or touchscreen way of looking at information. Though it does give me a ‘minority report’ vibe, I really like the keyword layout.

SEO is already complicated enough so it is great to see something that reduces it to a picture.

Great write up. I find the Wonder Wheel to be one of the best keyword research tools because you can quickly and easily explore many different avenues. Unlike the Adwords keyword tool you can quickly click on the terms to explore further and it’s much better at presenting ideas I hadn’t thought of. It’s also a great way of creating more effective PPC campaigns if you build separate campaigns for the terms that appear in the spokes.

Do you tend to use this tool in conjunction with the Google Adwords tool or with Wordtracker, or has it replaced all or some of them?

Wow. This time it will be a lot easier to find and target keywords then. This is actually a great idea to find specific topics about certain keywords.

I read an article online which stated that the Google Wonder Wheel feature has been taken offline. I’m not sure if this is true, though.

It’s really a cool and great feature but I check that it’s already not included on google page.
