Another good point is to make use of the STRONG html tag. You can use it to draw attention to interesting bits of your text, if the person is put off by the huge amount of text they may just pass up reading it. But if you make some parts stand out, they may be inclined to read a little. This helps your seo in two ways, google likes the STRONG tags and the person stays on your site longer.

The thing that gets people coming back is stuff they are very into reading, and of course TELL them that the information is updated/changes regularly and make sure you DO change it. The longer the content is and keep it interesting the longer they will stay on your site (good for seo to), a cascading effect will ensue resulting in more and more readers.
